The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 11th to 20th May 2012 were Rs. 3282.38 crore compared to Rs. 2755.19 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.13 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1884.04 crore during the period from 11th to 20th May 2011 to Rs. 2351.07 crore during 11th May to 20th May 2012, showing an increase of 24.79 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 11th to 20th May 2012 were Rs. 821.79 crore compared to Rs. 765.98 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 7.29 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 79.55 crore during this period compared to Rs. 77.20 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.04 per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th May 2012 were 223.96 million compared to 215.91 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.73 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during 11th to 20th May 2012 were 113.51 million and 110.45 million compared to 106.84 million and 109.07 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 6.24 per cent and 1.27 per cent respectively.
